Gina Prince-Bythewood (LOVE & BASKETBALL)

Gina Prince-Bythewood (Writer/Producer/Director) wrote and directed the widely-acclaimed feature film LOVE & BASKETBALL, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Prince-Bythewood won an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and a Humanitas Prize for her work on the film. She followed that success with the HBO film “Disappearing Acts.” In 2008, she wrote and directed the celebrated adaptation of the best-selling novel, THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES. The film won two People’s Choice Awards and two NAACP Image Awards. Her third feature, 2014’s BEYOND THE LIGHTS, garnered an Oscar nomination for best song. The love story set in the music world stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nate Parker, Minnie Driver and Danny Glover.In television, Gina most recently created the Fox limited series SHOTS FIRED alongside her husband, writer/director Reggie Rock Bythewood. She co-wrote and directed two of the ten episodes including the pilot, which premiered in March 2017 to rave reviews. She is proud to fund a scholarship for African American students in UCLA’s film program. She resides in Southern California with her Reggie and their sons, Cassius and Toussaint.
