Carolina Markowicz is an award-winning filmmaker based out of São Paulo, Brazil. She has written and directed 6 short films selected to more than 300 festivals such as Cannes, Locarno, Toronto, SXSW, AFI and awarded with more than 100 prizes. Her short film 'The Orphan' is one of the most awarded short films of the year, worldwide. It premiered in The Director’s Fortnight-Cannes 2018 and was the winner of the Queer Palm, being the first Brazilian film to ever win this award. Inspired by true events, her latest short film, 'The Orphan' tells the story of a teenage orphan who is cruelly left isolated for being ‘different’. A sad reflection of harmful and pervading conservative attitudes of the moment. Read her interview on the short here!
