Axelle Carolyn is one of the most exciting emerging horror filmmakers; as a writer and director, she has a keen eye for high-brow genre content with several projects under her belt across both television and film. A passionate fan of gothic horror, Axelle wrote and directed the upcoming feature The Manor, starring Barbara Hershey and Bruce Davison, which Amazon Studios is set to release on October 8 as part of an all-new installment of Welcome to the Blumhouse.

In the past year, she directed episodes of Ryan Murphy’s lauded FX series “American Horror Story,” as well as the standout, black-and-white chapter of Mike Flanagan’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor” from Paramount, Amblin, and Netflix, which Rotten Tomatoes called “the year’s most haunting hour of TV.” Additional credits include: Shudder’s “Creepshow,” Netflix’s upcoming “The Midnight Club,” based on the Christopher Pike novel of the same name, and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” for Warner Bros and Netflix, which she wrote.

In 2015, Axelle created, wrote, and co-directed the horror anthology “Tales of Halloween,” the subject of which is her favorite day of the year. She spearheaded the anthology and both wrote and directed the creepy, atmospheric segment “Grimm Grinning Ghost” starring Alex Essoe. The anthology is certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and won a Saturn Award, as well as Best Independent Film at the Rondo Awards. In 2013, Axelle’s feature directorial debut premiered: the slow-burn ghost story Soulmate, which won several awards in festivals around the world. Axelle earned Best Director at Fantafestival and lead actress Anna Walton took home top performance wins for the title at the Knoxville Horror Film Fest and Fantasporto, among others.

Axelle began her career as a reporter for some of the world's most respected film magazines and websites. She also wrote two non-fiction books on horror: It Lives Again! Horror Movies In The New Millennium (2009, Telos) and The FrightFest Guide to Ghost Movies (2018, FAB Press).
