Alma Har'el

Known for her wildly inventive filmmaking techniques, Alma most recently directed HONEY BOY, starring Shia LeBeouf, Lucas Hedges, Maika Monroe, and Noah Jupe. HONEY BOY premiered at Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. Additionally, Alma co-produced LOVETRUE with Shia LeBeouf, which blurs the line between fiction and documentary – it follows three very different couples, and with the infusion of real actors explore the past, present, and future of her subjects, whose behaviors challenge our expectations of what constitutes love. Alma’s film BOMBAY BEACH won the best documentary award at Tribeca in 2011. Born in Tel Aviv she began her film career as a photographer & video artist, mixing live video content for concerts which then led to directing music videos. In 2016, Har’el founded advocacy nonprofit Free The Bid, a pledge which asks agencies and brands to promise to include a woman director on any triple-bid commercial project. As of its first anniversary, in September, Free the Bid had 40 agencies and 10 major brands (including HP, Visa, eBay, Airbnb, Coca-Cola, LinkedIn, Levi’s and Twitter) on board, with pledged agencies such as BBDO and CP+B reporting hiring increases of women directors of up to 400%. There's currently no trailer for HONEY BOY yet, but check out the rave reviews and Alma talking about the movie here!
